An AquaFarm is a modular, closed-loop fish farming system (RAS) designed to grow up to 84,000 kg of African catfish per year in a controlled, energy-efficient environment. It combines mechanical and biological filtration, oxygenation, and smart sensors to create perfect water conditions — anywhere, all year round.
The standard unit has a floor area of ~160 m2 and a total water volume of 90 m3. It contains six rearing tanks, water treatment modules, and a control center — all inside an insulated, lightweight sandwich-panel building.
Each 90 m³ AquaFarm produces about 84 tons (84,000 kg) of market-size African catfish annually.
That’s based on three 4.5-month growth cycles, with an average fish weight of 1.58 kg at harvest.
The system is optimized for African catfish (Clarias gariepinus), due to its excellent growth rate and oxygen tolerance.
However, with minor adjustments, it can support tilapia, carp, or trout, depending on local conditions and market demand.
The AquaFarm recirculates 95–98% of its water, requiring only minimal top-up.
Energy consumption is 40–60% lower than traditional RAS systems thanks to efficient pumps, insulation, and optional solar integration.
You’ll typically need:
A basic aquaculture or animal production permit,
Local water-use registration (even though it’s a closed system),
And sometimes an environmental notification depending on your region.
We provide full documentation and support templates for all required permits.
Once the site is prepared (foundation + utilities), installation takes 30–45 days.
All components arrive prefabricated, tested, and ready to connect.
Training and first stocking can start immediately after commissioning.
Very little.
The main tasks are filter cleaning, sensor calibration, and routine checks on pumps and aerators — all of which are guided by the AquaFarm monitoring app.
Our remote diagnostics team can assist you anytime.
Not at all.
AquaFarm was designed for first-time operators and small entrepreneurs.
You’ll receive training from AquaZone Academy, and continuous support during your first cycles — until you’re confident to run it independently.
Typical ROI is 4.0 to 4.5 years, depending on local feed costs, energy prices, and market rates.
We provide a customized ROI calculator so you can model your own farm’s profitability before starting.
Absolutely.
The AquaFarm system is modular by design — you can connect multiple 90 m³ units to share filtration, oxygen, and control systems.
Scaling from one to three units multiplies production capacity instantly.
